Homemade Dog Treats are probably much easier to make than you thought. I like to make my own recipes because I know exactly what ingredients are in them and there are no chemicals or preservatives. Just a healthy, yummy snack for my pup.

These are healthy peanut butter dog treats that your dogs will love because they have two of the most well-loved ingredients: peanut butter and pumpkin. If your dog hasn’t tried anything with pumpkin before, trust me, they love it.

Homemade Dog Treats

There are a few ways to make a homemade dog treat, but this way is my favorite. You just need six ingredients and a bone shaped cookie cutter.

If you don’t have a cookie cutter in that particular shape (you can grab one on Amazon here) feel free to use any shape you’d like. I don’t think your dog will mind, do you?

Ingredients You Will Need

  • Whole Wheat Flour
  • Creamy Peanut Butter – Take a peak below at my notes on peanut butter for dogs.
  • Canned Pumpkin – any brand will do.
  • Eggs – this holds the whole thing together.
  • Salt – for a little flavor.
  • Cinnamon – make sure to never use nutmeg instead.

How To Make Homemade Dog Treats

  1. Mix. Gather all your ingredients and place them in a mixing bowl. Stir them up until you’ve got a doughy consistency.
  2. Roll. Form the dough into a ball shape and roll it out on a flat surface to about 1/2″ thick.
  3. Cut.Cut out the treats with a cookie cutter or simply use a pizza cutter to cut them into squares. (If you are pressed for time, this makes the job super quick.)
  4. Bake. Cook these on a parchment lined baking sheet for about 35-40 minutes.

You’ll end up with about 48-60 small biscuits or 24-30 large ones. It all depends on which cookie cutter you wind up using.

Can Dogs Eat Peanut Butter?

The short answer of course, is yes, but with a caveat. Something I learned recently is that an ingredient sometimes found in peanut butter called Xylitol, which is an artificial sweetener, is bad for pups. It’s fine for us humans, but toxic to pets. Take a look at the label of your peanut butter before you feed it to your dogs.

How Long Do Homemade Dog Treats Last?

These peanut butter dog treats will last similarly to a home baked cookie, which is about a week or two in an airtight container. You can keep them right in your usual dog treat container! If you want them to last a little longer you can refrigerate them for up to a month. I have two dogs: a big guy and a little one so these never make it past the one-week mark! They get ate pretty darn quick.
