Impossible Chicken Pie Recipe (1)

I have a dessert Impossible Pie that is amazeballs! I decided to make a savory version to share with you today.

Impossible Pies became popular in the 1970s after they were featured on the back of a box of Bisquick. They are easy to make, delicious and have stood the test of time.

The great thing about Impossible Pies is that you don’t even need to make a crust. All the ingredients go into a pie shell and that’s where the magic happens. They bake their own crust making this recipe one of the simplest dinner recipes ever!

Once you make an Impossible Pie, you’ll be able to come up with different variations. This particular recipe calls for chicken, but you could easily substitute turkey or leave out the meat entirely.

FAQs

What is impossible pie made of? ›

"Really easy and tasty dessert. The flour sinks to form a crust, the middle is a custard and the top is coconut. Serve chilled with a dollop of Cool Whip."

How do you thicken chicken pie filling? ›

Stir a tablespoon of cornstarch into 2 tablespoons of cold water and add it to your filling mixture to thicken it.

What goes well with chicken pie? ›

Peas: sweet and vibrant, peas bring a pop of colour and a burst of natural sweetness that complements the savoury flavours of chicken pies. Broccoli: with its mild bitterness and crisp texture, broccoli adds a satisfying crunch and a nutritious element to the dish.

What is Millionaire Pie made of? ›

Millionaire pie is a no-bake pie consisting of a rich base of sweetened condensed milk, Cool Whip, and cream cheese that's combined with crushed pineapple and pecans. The filling is then poured into a graham cracker crust and chilled in the refrigerator until set.

What brand of pie is vegan? ›

Freshly baked desserts are made easy with OG freezer brand Sara Lee. All fruit pies are vegan, so opt for a Dutch Apple, Lattice Peach, or Mince Pie.

Why is my chicken pie so watery? ›

A watery potpie may be the result of not cooking the filling for long enough or adding too much liquid to the filling. Another possible reason for the pie being watery is if you add watery vegetables like spinach or green beans to the filling rather than potatoes or carrots, which soak up liquid.

How do you keep chicken pie from getting soggy? ›

A metal pie pan placed on a preheated surface will set the bottom crust quickest; once cooked, the liquids from the filling above won't soak in, and as a result: no soggy bottom. (Using metal is crucial: Glass or ceramic pans don't transfer heat as efficiently, so they can be accomplices to a sad, soggy bottom.)

What does cornstarch do in pie filling? ›

Cornstarch is a super-effective thickener that doesn't need much time to cook, although it does require high temperatures to activate. To avoid clumps, mix cornstarch with sugar before adding it to your filling. When undercooked or used in excess, cornstarch can have a chalky taste and texture.

Can I use puff pastry instead of pie crust? ›

I normally use my traditional pie crust with this filling (sometimes with brown butter) but I HAD to try it with puff pastry. Turns out, it's amazing. The high butter content in puff pastry makes this crust melt in your mouth. Not to mention, I think it's stunning.

Is chicken pie good for you? ›

A bad chicken pot pie is worse for you than one made with good, fresh ingredients. The frozen ones tend to be high in fat and sodium. There's nothing inherently unhealthy in a chicken pot pie, it's basically chicken stew in a crust. If you're watching your carbs you can just skip the crust.

Can you use puff pastry for the base of a pie? ›

If you want to make a puff pastry base for your pie

As you warm up your oven, put a baking tray in to heat up. Then when you put your pie in the oven, sit the dish on top of the hot baking tray. I find that this really helps to cook the base of the Steak Pie and stop a soggy bottom.

Why is there gelatin in pork pies? ›

While you can make a pork pie without the jelly, traditional pork pies have gelatin (some boiled pig trotters) added to preserve and keep the meat moist. You will often see a small hole in the lid of the pie where the jelly has been poured in.

What was mock apple pie made of? ›

The trick to this pie is all in the flavoring. When you break up buttery Ritz crackers and cover them with lemon and vanilla flavored simple syrup, then sprinkle them with cinnamon, the resulting filling is quite similar in texture to a soft and tender apple pie.

Is pork pie cured meat? ›

Traditional pies use a mix of fat and cured meat, giving the filling a pink colour. They are often produced in moulds or forms, giving the outside of the pie a very regular shape. This method is simpler and cheaper for volume production, and hence the more common choice for commercial manufacturers.

Does impossible coconut custard pie magically make its own crust? ›

Impossible Coconut Pie is super simple custard pie that forms its own crust as it bakes. With a smooth custard filling, chewy coconut and a dollop of whipped cream on top, this easy dessert is hard to pass up!
