RUSSIAN DRESSING

1 tablespoon finely chopped onion |
1 cup purchased or homemade mayonnaise |
1/4 cup ketchup-style chili sauce or ketchup |
4 teaspoons bottled (regular; not packed in beet juice) horseradish, or to taste |
1 teaspoon hot sauce, preferably Frank's Red Hot Sauce |
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce |
1/4 teaspoon sweet paprika |
Fine sea salt |
Steps:
- In a mortar and pestle, mash the onion to create a paste, or use a large heavy knife to mince and mash the onion into a paste. Transfer the onion paste to a small bowl and whisk in the mayonnaise, chili sauce, horseradish, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and sweet paprika. Season with fine sea salt, if desired. DO AHEAD: The dressing can be prepared ahead and refrigerated, in an airtight container, up to 2 weeks.
RUSSIAN DRESSING
Russian dressing and Thousand Island are similar in that they are both creamy and salmon in color. - In a small bowl, whisk all ingredients until blended. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.

1/2 c white sugar |
3 Tbsp water |
1 1/2 tsp celery seed |
1/2 tsp salt |
1/2 tsp paprika |
2 1/2 Tbsp lemon juice, fresh |
1 Tbsp worcestershire sauce |
1 Tbsp vinegar |
1 c oil |
1/2 c ketchup ( i love using the spicy kind) |
1/4 c onion grated |
Steps:
- 1. Cook the sugar and water until it spins a thread then let it cool.
- 2. Next, Combine remaining ingredients and add the sugar water and beat thoroughly.
- 3. Next, chill ingredients. Makes about 2 cups, this makes great BBQ sauce as well!

1 1/2 teaspoons celery seeds |
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce |
1/4 cup grated onion (or 1/2 tbsp onion powder) |
Steps:
- In a sauce pan cook sugar and water until thick.
- Cool syrup.
- Combine the remaining ingredients.
- Add syrup and whisk to blend well.

COPYCAT ITALIAN SALAD DRESSING
My family prefers the store brand of Italian dressing to any of the name brands. They all pretty much taste the same and have the same ingredients. This is a copycat of their dressing using mostly ingredients from the cabinet most people keep on hand or can find easily. The water makes it stretch a little further for those on a tight budget, but you might also like it without.

½ red bell pepper |
1 ½ cups vegetable oil |
¾ cup water |
¾ cup white vinegar |
¼ cup white sugar |
2 tablespoons dried basil |
2 tablespoons lemon juice |
1 ½ teaspoons dried minced onion |
¾ teaspoon salt |
Steps:
- Set oven rack about 6 inches from the heat source and preheat the oven's broiler. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and add red bell pepper.
- Roast red bell pepper under the broiler until slightly blackened, about 12 minutes. Transfer bell pepper to a bowl and cover tightly with plastic wrap for about 10 minutes. Carefully remove plastic wrap and peel skin from bell pepper.
- Blend roasted red pepper, oil, water, vinegar, sugar, basil, lemon juice, minced onion, and salt in a blender until smooth.
